Dress Code
Academy students are to be well groomed and properly attired in the school uniform during the school day and on all Academy-sponsored trips. Free-dress days are scheduled throughout the year to allow students opportunities to wear clothing other than the school uniform. On free-dress days students are allowed to wear clothing other than the school uniform, but must maintain a clean, well-groomed and non-distracting appearance. At no time may skirts or shorts violate ordinary length requirements, nor may clothing expose undergarments or bare backs or midriffs. On free-dress days, student clothing may not display inappropriate drawings, pictures, logos, words, or slogans.
The school uniform will include:
- Black, brown, or navy shoes,
- Dark socks, tights, or plain hosiery,
- Navy or khaki long pants (no jeans or cargo pants) or skirts that reach within one inch of the knee purchased from student’s choice of vendor, and
- White, navy, dark green, or light yellow collared knit shirts with The Academy logo or light blue, French blue, lake blue stripe, or white button-down dress shirts/blouses in short or long sleeves with The Academy logo purchased from Lands’ End School Uniforms using The Academy’s preferred school number.
Appropriate outerwear will include:
- Navy or dark green sweatshirts or pull-over sweaters with The Academy logo (Lands’ End), and
- Navy blazer with The Academy logo ( Lands’ End School Uniforms ).
The Academy at King’s preferred school code is 9001-2644-2. If parents provide this code when placing a qualifying order, 3% of the net sales will be contributed to The Academy at King to be used for funding special projects. Items may be ordered by fax, phone, mail, or internet.
Additional dress code requirements at The Academy and for Academy-sponsored trips include the following:
- During warm weather, students may wear navy or khaki shorts that are knee-length,
- When wearing pants, a belt is required. Midriffs or undergarments must not be exposed.
- Shirts must be tucked in.
- For intramural athletic events, students may wear navy or black gym shorts or sweatpants, white or pastel-colored solid knit shirts or tee shirts and sweatshirts with The Academy logo or no printing.
- Students will wear the team uniform for athletic competitions.
- Clothing must be clean and in good repair.
- Each student’s hair must be neat, be out of the student’s eyes and be styled in a way that does not create a distraction.
- Students are not to wear beards, sideburns, or mustaches.
- Sandals or open-toed shoes are not to be worn.
- Hats are not to be worn in the school buildings at any time.
- Students are not to wear body-piercing jewelry other than earrings. Students are to wear no more than one pair of earrings.
- Students are to have no visible tattoos.
