Academy welcomes new faculty, offers summer camp

On target for the start of classes this August, the Academy at King has announced the hire of leading faculty members. Karen Cross, an award-winning regional educator with global experience, and Paul Ojanen, a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and degree candidate at Harvard, are among those ready to welcome students for the Academy’s inaugural year. more...

The Academy at King to host July summer camp

Area students have the chance to get a new view on how the world works during the Academy at King’s first Mathematics and Science Summer Camp, scheduled for July 14-18, 2008.  From the study of airplanes and gyroscopes to flowers and trees, the camp will explore how physics, math and chemistry affect everyday life.  Creative, hands-on activities will help students understand patterns in nature, as well as complex, unseen forces such as those that govern the motion of bicycles and the flight of golf balls. more...

Financial aid offered for Academy students

The Academy at King has announced the availability of financial aid packages for students enrolling at the new private school this fall.

“As part of our collaboration with the community, we are offering tuition assistance for qualified students,” said Sue Melkowski, head of school for the Academy.  “Assistance packages will be awarded based on need, and while packages will vary according to individual students, we expect that each will offer a significant advantage to families seeking options in private education.” more...

Head of School announced for the Academy at King

King College announced Tuesday that veteran educator Susan Melkowski has been named Head of School for the Academy at King. The Academy, a tuition-based private school designed to serve families with students in grades 9-12, is scheduled to offer its first classes in the fall of 2008.

“We are delighted that Susan Melkowski will be leading this new initiative,” said Dr. Linda Fore, consultant for the Academy. “She brings three decades of experience in instruction, curriculum design, policy making, standards testing and more. Her longtime investment in our area’s educational community makes her an excellent candidate, and her familiarity with the administrative operations of an educational facility are a very
valuable asset as we work to establish the Academy.” more...
